Oneida County housing remains comparatively affordable amid tight supply
Housing officials and local leaders say Oneida County has lower home prices than many other markets, even as limited supply and demand continue to affect buyers.
Oneida County has remained a comparatively affordable housing market, while buyers continue to face limited inventory and strong demand. The area’s housing costs are lower than those in several other parts of the country, and local officials point to jobs and tourism as factors supporting the region’s appeal.
New York State Homes and Community Renewal Commissioner and CEO RuthAnne Visnauskas said the state needs more housing across different types, including townhouses, duplexes and fourplexes. Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente said visitor spending in the county exceeded $2 billion in 2024, while a 2024 Tourism Economics report estimated that tourism-generated state and local taxes saved the average regional household $1,165 in additional costs. In June, Picente announced approval of a Uniform Tax Exemption and Agency Benefits Policy, making more housing projects eligible for incentives.
