A vaccinated cat was exposed and received a booster dose, while one person reported exposure and is expected to receive preventive treatment. The county said the 2026 total has reached 15 rabid animals, including six skunks, six raccoons, two bats and one bobcat.
Health officials advised residents to avoid unfamiliar animals, keep pet vaccinations current and wash animal-related wounds with soap and water before seeking medical care. A county rabies vaccination clinic is scheduled for Oct. 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Jefferson County Dog Control.
