Constantino calls for more prison officers after Gouverneur incident

Republican congressional candidate Anthony Constantino is urging New York to hire more corrections officers after an incident at Gouverneur Correctional Facility. Corrections officer Wade Carey was injured while attempting to pat-frisk an incarcerated person who was acting aggressively, and a second person allegedly struck Carey, according to the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association.

Carey was evaluated by facility medical staff and taken to an area hospital. NYSCOPBA said he suffered broken ribs, broken teeth, a broken nose and facial injuries. Constantino said the incident shows the need for changes intended to improve safety in state prisons, including restoring tools for officers and increasing staffing.
