Soldiers assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, will conduct the Mountain Peak exercise at Fort Drum from Tuesday, Oct. 20, through Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026. The training is intended to prepare the brigade for an upcoming Joint Readiness Training Center rotation at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and is expected to increase activity and noise in Fort Drum’s training areas.
The exercise will include infantry maneuvers, force-on-force training, aviation support and indirect long-range fires, Fort Drum said. Force-on-force training uses opposing units to test tactics and battlefield operations.
Mountain Peak began in July 2012 and was described at the time as one of the largest exercises in 10th Mountain Division history. A 2025 version, Mountain Peak 25-01, involved the 2nd Brigade Combat Team and ran from May 12 through May 18 ahead of that unit’s JRTC rotation.
Residents near Fort Drum may hear increased military activity during the exercise. Fort Drum covers about 47,000 acres, and the training area is used for exercises involving soldiers, vehicles, aircraft and weapons systems.
The exercise is scheduled to continue through Oct. 29. Fort Drum announcements and later updates are available through the Fort Drum website and its public affairs news releases.
