Harborview Aquarium opening pushed to late 2026
Harborview Aquarium officials told the Onondaga County Legislature’s Facilities Committee that the nearly $104 million project is expected to open sometime between Sept. 21 and Dec. 21, 2026.
Harborview Aquarium’s opening has been delayed until later in 2026, with the nearly $104 million project now expected to welcome visitors sometime between Sept. 21 and Dec. 21, Deputy County Executive Brian Donnelly told the Onondaga County Legislature’s Facilities Committee on Tuesday.
Donnelly said delays involving a large acrylic tank component manufactured in Italy affected the schedule. The nearly 80,000-square-foot aquarium is planned to include 600,000 gallons of saltwater and freshwater tanks, exhibits featuring 297 types of saltwater animals and 74 types of freshwater animals, five touch exhibits, a classroom and an event center. Admission prices are still under review.
