Students and faculty at Jefferson Community College held the school’s annual Take Back the Night Walk on campus in Watertown, carrying purple glow sticks in support of domestic violence survivors. The walk was held Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, and was intended to show solidarity with survivors and raise awareness of domestic violence.
Jefferson Community College campus advocate Jennifer Dalton said the event was meant to remind survivors they are not alone and to address the stigma that can prevent people from coming forward. Campus resources are available to people experiencing domestic abuse, and students can also contact the Victims Assistance Center of Jefferson County.
The center serves Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties and provides services at no charge. Jefferson Community College is a SUNY two-year college in Watertown serving about 2,500 students from Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego and St. Lawrence counties.
The Take Back the Night event has been held at the college for years, generally in October, and has included a march and resource tables. The next walk’s date has not been announced. Students seeking help can contact campus resources at Jefferson Community College or the Victims Assistance Center of Jefferson County.
