The Jefferson County SPCA is holding a one-day adoption event Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, with adoption fees waived for 17 selected dogs and cats. The event gives potential adopters an opportunity to apply for animals while an ASPCA grant covers the fees.
The featured pets include three dogs — Louis, Catan and Bellatrix — and 14 cats: Midnight, Tango, Roquefort, Gouda, Feta, Brie, Macreme, Jenna-fur, Richard, Spooky, Juana, Jeffrey, Holstein and Mary. The SPCA said standard shelter requirements and application approvals still apply.
The ASPCA’s 2026 Rescue Effect campaign is providing $2 million in grants to 200 shelters to waive adoption fees. The grants are $10,000 each, and participating shelters are required to hold at least two fee-waived adoption days or events each month during August, September and October 2026.
The Jefferson County SPCA, a nonprofit founded in 1891, is at 25056 Water Street in Watertown. The organization lists regular adoption fees ranging from $50 for barn cats to $350 for puppies, depending on the animal’s age and category.
The shelter’s listed phone number is (315) 782-3260. Adoption applications are available through the Jefferson County SPCA adoption page. Updates are also available through the SPCA website. Event hours were not included in the available information, so potential adopters should contact the shelter before visiting.
