A six-person state Supreme Court jury awarded $3.5 million to a former Harrisville Central School student in a civil case involving alleged sexual abuse by a teacher during the early 1980s, court documents show.

The student, identified in court documents as E.L., filed the lawsuit against the district in 2021 under the state Child Victims Act. The award included $3 million for past pain and suffering and $500,000 for future pain and suffering. The trial lasted three days and ended July 23.
