Massena village trustees accepted Walter Bean’s resignation as assistant foreman of the Massena Permanent Fire Department, with an internal promotion expected in the coming weeks.
By Caleb Mercer, ClickNNY North Country Desk
The Massena Permanent Fire Department is expected to have a new assistant foreman after village trustees accepted Walter Bean’s resignation from the position during their Oct. 20, 2026, regular meeting.
Bean will remain with the department as a firefighter and is expected to continue serving as the village’s lead code enforcement officer. Trustees are likely to act on an internal promotion at their next regular meeting, scheduled for Nov. 17, 2026.
The village also approved the temporary appointment of Melissa Dishaw as a clerk for the Village Police Department. Dishaw is expected to serve for at least a few months while the department’s current clerk is on maternity leave. The clerk handles duties including Freedom of Information Law requests, village officials said.
