Massena police posted a notice near the footbridge saying camping-related items may be removed and offering information about assistance programs.
The Village of Massena has posted a notice near the footbridge, south of Syakos Place, reminding people that village code prohibits camping in public places. The notice says tents, tarps, canopies, outdoor shelters and related items may be removed at least 72 hours after the notice is posted and within seven days of posting.
The notice also says the village will provide information about public assistance and housing programs to people who need help. Village officials have said assistance cannot be forced on people who decline to work with the Department of Social Services or other supporting organizations.
