Massena sales-tax revenue falls short of village budget
The village of Massena received less sales-tax revenue than projected for the fiscal year as officials consider ways to address declining receipts and rising insurance costs.
The village of Massena received $590,436 in sales-tax revenue during the fourth quarter of its fiscal year, a 3% decrease from the same period a year earlier. The amount was $134,380 below the village’s budgeted total of $2.45 million, officials said.
The village also reported receiving $533,514 in the previous quarter, down 6.8% from the prior year. Year-to-date receipts were $1,725,183, a decrease of $60,199, or about 3.4%. Officials have discussed alternative revenue sources and possible changes to services or personnel as the village addresses lower sales-tax revenue. Insurance costs also increased by about 10% year over year, with the village’s cost for employees and retirees under 65 reaching $2,017,605.72 effective Jan. 1, 2026.
