Massena school board vote leaves second SRO agreement unresolved

The Massena Village Board approved an agreement for a second school resource officer at Massena Central School District, but the school board’s vote did not pass. Four members supported the measure and one opposed it; three members were absent and one seat was vacant, according to the submitted report.

The proposed agreement would add Officer Shawn Hatch to work alongside Juvenile Officer and SRO Michael Flynn. The contract listed a $152,000 amount and included a start date of July 1, 2026, although officials discussed prorating it because Hatch was not expected to begin until Sept. 1. No date was set for another school board meeting.
