New York is recruiting Park Rangers for its state park system, and residents of St. Lawrence County are encouraged to apply. Applications are being accepted through Dec. 31, 2026, through the New York State Park Ranger employment page.
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation says Park Rangers patrol campgrounds, beaches and trails, respond to calls for assistance, and alert emergency responders when needed. The work can also include light maintenance, public safety assistance and traffic control during large events.
Park Rangers are not law enforcement officers and do not face the same requirements as peace or police officers. The state says applicants must be at least 18 when appointed, have a high school diploma or equivalent, hold a valid New York state identification document, and meet physical, medical and background-investigation requirements. A valid driver's license is required when a position involves driving state vehicles.
The listed pay is $22.47 per hour. Applicants also need basic computer and smartphone skills. Candidates selected for employment must complete 24 hours of security guard training after they are hired, but the training is not required to be completed before consideration.
The state says there is no fee to apply. After a conditional offer, selected candidates must pay a $104.50 background fingerprinting fee and a $36 New York State Security Guard License Application Fee. Interviews are scheduled for January.
The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation oversees more than 250 parks and historic sites statewide. Applications and additional information about qualifications and duties are available on the official Park Ranger employment page.
