Ogdensburg advances proposal for waterfront boat facility at Diamond site
Ogdensburg is considering a proposed sale of 1 Madison Ave. to J.E. Sheehan Contracting Corp. for development of a boat repair and storage facility, with a public hearing scheduled for Oct. 13.
The City of Ogdensburg is considering selling 1 Madison Ave. at the former Diamond National property to J.E. Sheehan Contracting Corp. for $175,000. The Potsdam contractor’s proposal calls for a waterfront boat repair and storage facility known as the Ogdensburg Shipyard.
A public hearing on the proposed sale is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 13. Plans call for a roughly 10,000-square-foot building, reconstruction of the existing pier, a 150-ton mobile boat lift and boat fuel sales. The developer would also fund water, sewer, stormwater and access improvements, with at least $3 million in development costs.
The proposal includes public pedestrian access along an agreed portion of the riverfront, with temporary closures allowed for safety during marine operations. It also requires at least 10 full-time-equivalent jobs within 12 months of the project’s completion and would keep the property in water-dependent use for at least 10 years.
The sale would require final City Council approval, financing, insurance and environmental and other government approvals. The city would retain the adjacent 2 Madison Avenue parcel for possible future use or sale.
