Ogdensburg considers grave search before park project

Ogdensburg’s historic preservation commission is recommending a ground-penetrating radar survey at Charles W. Kelly Memorial Park before a proposed recreation project moves forward.

Ogdensburg’s historic preservation commission is recommending a ground-penetrating radar survey at Charles W. Kelly Memorial Park before the city proceeds with a proposed recreation hub. The property was once a church graveyard, and more than 100 remains were relocated from the site in the 1870s, city historian Julie Madlin said.

The city is awaiting a decision on a possible $800,000 state grant for the project. City Manager Fonda Chronis said the city will wait for that decision before considering its next steps.
