Community Health Center of the North Country and the Northern Area Health Education Center will host a community roundtable Nov. 9 at Heartwood Hall in Potsdam focused on the needs, experiences and challenges facing older adults in North Country communities.
The event is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. through the Older Adult Rural Support program, known as OARS. Discussion topics will include isolation, transportation, technology, workforce issues and stigma.
The evening will feature a panel with leaders in older adult care, followed by dinner and breakout discussions facilitated by local health care professionals. Big Spoon Kitchen will provide dinner and light refreshments.
Older adults, caregivers, community members, service providers, health care professionals and organizations that support older adults are encouraged to attend. Organizers say the discussion is intended to help identify local needs, connect existing resources and find opportunities for collaboration.
OARS is led by the New York State Association for Rural Health, with NAHEC as a partner. The program's goals include expanding access to mental and behavioral health care for older adults in rural communities, reducing stigma and strengthening the rural behavioral health workforce.
NAHEC serves Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Franklin and Clinton counties. The event will take place Nov. 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Heartwood Hall in Potsdam.
