The Village of Potsdam is accepting qualifications from attorneys or law firms seeking to provide municipal legal services and general counsel to village officials.

The Village of Potsdam is seeking an attorney or law firm to serve as village attorney and provide general legal counsel to municipal officials. The village issued a Request for Qualifications for an experienced New York municipal lawyer or firm.
The position would advise the mayor, Board of Trustees, village administrator, clerk, chief of police and other authorized officials. The scope includes municipal law and governance, public contracting, real property, easements, leases and municipal assets.
The village says it will evaluate applicants based on qualifications, experience, responsiveness, fit and overall value, rather than fees alone. The selected counsel would be presented to the Board of Trustees for appointment, subject to applicable law and board approval.
Applicants must submit a single PDF with the subject line “Village Attorney RFQ” by email to Village Clerk Georgine Scott at gscott@villageofpotsdamny.gov. Submissions should identify the proposed legal team and include brief biographies. The full request is posted on the Village of Potsdam website.
Questions may be directed to Aviva Gold at agold@villageofpotsdamny.gov or 315-265-1670. The Village Board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 16, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Village of Potsdam Civic Center, 2 Park Street. The board would approve any appointment.
