State Assemblyman Scott Gray toured ongoing renovations at SUNY Potsdam's Maxcy Hall Athletic Complex in Potsdam, including work affecting athletic, recreation and student-wellness facilities.
Gray toured the Ice Arena, Fieldhouse and Jerry Welsh Gymnasium and visited the women's hockey and men's basketball locker rooms. College officials also briefed him on planned improvements to outdoor athletic facilities, including athletic-field work and upgrades to turf-field restrooms.
Maxcy Hall has served as the home of SUNY Potsdam Athletics since the early 1970s. The complex is used by the Potsdam Bears and the college's 17 Division III teams.
The renovation project is being completed in phases. Work planned for the 2025-26 phase includes a renovated main concourse and a rebuilt Fieldhouse with an Olympic-certified floor, running track, drop-down netting, a new sound system, a video scoreboard and a second elevator. The Fieldhouse was slated to be ready for the fall 2026 semester, with an indoor turf field planned for installation during the winter months.
SUNY Potsdam says it serves about 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students. The college has faced enrollment and budget pressure, including a 2023 plan to address a $9 million deficit by cutting up to 14 degree programs over three to five years.
Gray represents New York's 116th Assembly District. Updates about the project and campus facilities are available through SUNY Potsdam and its Maxcy Hall tour announcement.
