St. Lawrence Democratic leaders weigh in on county finances
Mike Zagrobelny and Ginger Storey-Welch, chair and vice-chair of the St. Lawrence County Democratic Committee, discussed county finances, taxes and federal policy in a letter.
Mike Zagrobelny and Ginger Storey-Welch, chair and vice-chair of the St. Lawrence County Democratic Committee, said St. Lawrence County’s finances have improved since the 2008 recession and that members of both major parties contributed to that recovery.
In the letter, they cited county fund-balance investments, changes in the tax rate and the 1% sales-tax increase approved in 2013. They also argued that rising property assessments can increase individual tax bills even when the county tax rate declines. The letter criticized tariffs, fuel costs and potential federal reductions to SNAP and Medicaid, and urged voters to support Democratic candidates in the fall.
