Toyota is recalling 48,420 Tacoma trucks because an oil reservoir attached to a shock absorber could detach while the vehicle is being driven, creating a road hazard and potentially increasing the risk of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a recall notice.

The recall covers 43,827 model-year 2024-2025 Tacoma trucks and 4,453 2024 Tacoma Hybrid vehicles. Toyota dealerships will inspect the front and rear shock absorber assemblies and replace them at no cost. Owner notifications are scheduled to begin Oct. 5.
