Two men charged after reported altercation in Westville

New York State Police said Matthew R. Garneau, 25, of Brasher Falls, and Benjamin J. St. Ann, 46, of Fort Covington, were charged after an Aug. 22 altercation on state Route 37 in Westville. Troopers responded at about 4:18 p.m. to a reported disturbance, police said.

Police alleged that St. Ann damaged Garneau’s vehicle with a baseball bat and shovel and threatened him. Garneau was then accused of driving recklessly and striking the door of a residence. Garneau faces charges including criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon. St. Ann faces charges including criminal mischief, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing. Both were released on their own recognizance and scheduled to appear in court later.
