A five-year-old Waddington girl has completed a 1,000-book reading program before starting kindergarten. Zoya Chaundry read some books herself and had others read to her by family members, including her mother.

Most of the books were read through Waddington’s public library. The program’s final book was “The Wonderful Things You Will Be” by Emily Winfield Martin. Zoya said she plans to continue reading after kindergarten begins.

The library director said programs like this support early childhood literacy and estimated Zoya’s family saved more than $6,000 by using the free service.
