Watertown man pleads not guilty to murder charge; bail set at $1 million

Robert L.J. Taplin pleaded not guilty in Jefferson County Court to a second-degree murder charge in the death of Kristen Parker, and bail was set at $1 million cash or a $2 million insurance bond.

Robert L.J. Taplin, 35, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Jefferson County Court to a second-degree murder charge in the death of Kristen Parker, 37, at a Watertown apartment. The charge relates to an Aug. 4 stabbing at 661 Factory St., Apt. 27, according to a deposition filed by Watertown police Detective Gregory Gibbs.

Judge David Renzi set bail at $1 million cash or a $2 million insurance bond on the murder charge. Taplin was also denied bail on a probation-violation charge and is scheduled to appear virtually in court Sept. 10. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office took him into custody on Water Street at 2:50 p.m. Aug. 4, according to the deposition.
