The Figure Skating Club of Watertown’s Learn to Skate USA program ranked 321st nationally after the 2025-26 season, placing it in the top third of more than 1,000 programs, according to information released by the club. The ranking places the program 28th in New York state and 147th in the Eastern Section.
The program grew by more than 25% during the season and reached 119 members. Coach and Program Director Sherry Robbins said 21 skaters are on the waitlist, and the club is continuing to look for ways to make skating opportunities available to more people.
Learn to Skate USA praised the Watertown program for creating a welcoming and engaging environment. The club also credited the City of Watertown and its Parks and Recreation Department for their partnership and support.
A program for skaters of all ages
Learn to Skate USA is a national program endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating. Its curriculum offers beginner lessons for skaters of all ages and abilities.
The Figure Skating Club of Watertown is a nonprofit organization founded in 1974. The club says it has served the area for more than 50 years. Its Learn to Skate practices take place at the Watertown Municipal Arena, and the club says the program can benefit military families stationed at nearby Fort Drum.
The club also reported success in other competitions in 2026, including 32 medals at the State Games of America in State College, Pennsylvania. Those medals included eight gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze. The club reported 23 additional medals at the Empire State Winter Games in February.
Registration planned for September
The club plans to resume activities in September for its fall season. Its website says registration for the 2026-27 season opens Sept. 7 for returning skaters and Sept. 14 for new skaters. The Learn to Skate page advises families to check back in August for updates.
Families can find information through the Figure Skating Club of Watertown website or contact the club at skatewatertown@gmail.com. The waitlist remains part of the program’s current enrollment picture, with 21 skaters listed as waiting for an opportunity to participate.
