U.S. Customs and Border Protection said agents picked up a Guatemalan woman along Route 342 in the Town of Pamelia on Sept. 30 and determined she did not have legal status in the United States. The agency said she accepted voluntary departure.

The woman had been living with a Jefferson County foster family and had recently graduated from General Brown High School, according to the available report. Her former foster mother said the woman and her boyfriend are now back in Guatemala and safe.

The former foster mother also said the woman had been expected to leave the country by Dec. 29 under a court order, with a flight booked for that date. The report did not include the woman's name.
