Chaumont voters to decide whether village should dissolve
Chaumont voters are scheduled to decide Nov. 3 whether the village should dissolve into the Town of Lyme.
Voters in Chaumont are scheduled to decide Nov. 3 whether the village should continue to exist or dissolve into the Town of Lyme. The vote is set to begin at 6 a.m. at the village offices.
Chaumont was formed in 1874. A dissolution petition has collected more than 100 signatures. If approved, the village would have 180 days to develop a dissolution plan, which would require another voter approval. A 2019 study by the Development Authority of the North Country estimated that dissolving the village could lower the tax bill on a $100,000 home by $250.
