A Chinese national was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison after a jury convicted him of possessing about 207 pounds of marijuana with intent to distribute it, federal prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said the man drove from New York City to the Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation on Jan. 22, 2025, where his van was loaded with marijuana. U.S. Border Patrol agents later stopped the van while he was returning to New York City, and seized the drugs. Senior U.S. District Judge Glenn T. Suddaby also ordered three years of supervised release and a $5,000 fine. The case was investigated by the U.S. Border Patrol and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
