Deputy fatally shoots armed man during Elbridge standoff, sheriff says

The Onondaga County sheriff says a SWAT team member fatally shot a man after he pointed a firearm at the team during a standoff in Elbridge.

An Onondaga County Sheriff's Office SWAT team member fatally shot a man during a standoff Sunday at Rolling Hills Mobile Home Park on Route 5 in Elbridge, Sheriff Tobias Shelley said.

Deputies were called at 5:53 p.m. after a report that someone was shooting a gun from the rear window of a home. Shelley said a bullet struck a nearby vehicle occupied by a young female. Other mobile homes were evacuated while deputies and a state trooper tried to negotiate with the man, who had barricaded himself inside.

The sheriff said the man later pointed a long gun at a drone and then at a SWAT member. The state Attorney General's Office is investigating the incident.
