Former Watertown Mayor Joe Butler Sr., who served from 2000 to 2003, has died, according to the submitted research material.

Before becoming mayor, Butler served eight years on the Jefferson County Legislature, then known as the Board of Supervisors. The city website says he also taught chemistry at Jefferson Community College for 27 years and was involved with several local civic organizations.
