Fulton teen releases juvenile lake sturgeon caught in Seneca River

A 15-year-old angler from Fulton reportedly caught and released a juvenile lake sturgeon while fishing near Paper Mill Island in Baldwinsville.

BaldwinsvilleCommunity

A 15-year-old angler from Fulton reportedly caught a juvenile lake sturgeon while fishing near Paper Mill Island in Baldwinsville, according to the submitted report. The fish was estimated at 30 to 35 inches long and about 15 pounds.

The sturgeon was released after it was unhooked and photographed. New York has no open fishing season for lake sturgeon, and possession of the fish is prohibited. Sturgeon that are accidentally hooked must be released immediately. A state Department of Environmental Conservation restoration program has stocked nearly 300,000 sturgeon in New York waterways since 1993.
