Jefferson County Historical Society regains nonprofit status

The Jefferson County Historical Society says it has regained the nonprofit status it lost earlier this year, months after its museum temporarily closed.

Community

The Jefferson County Historical Society has regained its nonprofit status, months after losing it and closing its museum on a temporary basis. The society announced in April that it had lost both its nonprofit status and its insurance coverage because of administrative lapses. Its executive director was replaced after that announcement. The society said it spent the following months addressing administrative and organizational matters and putting steps in place to operate on a stronger foundation. It described the restoration of its nonprofit status as an important step toward rebuilding the organization and preserving the county's history.
