Lewis County officials continue measles contact tracing

Lewis County Public Health officials are continuing to contact people who may have been exposed to a resident with measles, the county’s first reported case since New York began regularly tracking measles numbers in 1994. The resident is unvaccinated and is isolating for eight days, the report said.

Health officials are reviewing contacts during the period around the resident’s rash onset and checking whether those people are vaccinated or have documented immunity. More than 78% of Lewis County 2-year-olds had received at least one MMR vaccine as of January, and the state Department of Health has described the vaccine as the best protection against measles.
