A United Airlines flight bound for San Diego was delayed Thursday after security personnel found a live bullet aboard the aircraft before departure.
United Flight 1302 was preparing to leave Denver International Airport when the bullet was discovered during routine checks. The Boeing 737-900 was carrying 178 passengers and six crew members. Passengers were instructed to deplane with their carry-on bags while security personnel swept the aircraft.
The flight was scheduled to depart at approximately 1:25 p.m. local time but took off at about 3:41 p.m., more than two hours later. United confirmed the incident and said security personnel cleared the aircraft before departure. The airline referred additional questions to the Transportation Security Administration.
It was not immediately clear how the bullet ended up on the aircraft or to whom it belonged.
