The Lewis County Office for the Aging received a $6,000 grant to replace commercial refrigeration equipment used in the kitchen at the Double Play Community Center in Lowville. The equipment supports the county’s senior nutrition program, which prepares and serves meals for older adults in Lowville and surrounding Lewis County communities.
The grant came from the Northern New York Community Foundation. The county said the center’s existing commercial freezer has experienced mechanical problems and is operating at reduced capacity, affecting food storage, meal preparation and daily operations.
The Office for the Aging expects to coordinate the purchase and installation of the new equipment in the coming months. The grant will be used for commercial refrigeration equipment, including a new refrigerator and freezer setup, according to information released about the project.
The Office for the Aging nutrition program typically prepares and serves more than 4,000 meals each month through community dining sites and home-delivered meals. Takeout meals are available through sites in Lowville, Lyons Falls and Harrisville, while home delivery is available for people over 60.
The Double Play Community Center is at 6912 Bardo Road in Lowville. More information about the county’s food and meal services is available through the Lewis County Office for the Aging. The center’s listed phone number is 315-376-7001.
