Massena school board approves $88,600 asbestos abatement contract

The Massena Central School Board approved an $88,600 contract for hazardous-material abatement at J.W. Leary Junior High School, according to the submitted research material.

A.A.C. Contracting LLC of Rochester was identified as the low bidder. The work involves removing asbestos floor tile from several rooms and storage areas, with replacement flooring planned as part of the broader project. District officials said the work is expected to take place during a school break, possibly the Christmas break.

The district has also been planning a separate $79.8 million capital project approved by voters. That project is expected to include improvements at the junior high, high school, elementary schools and other district facilities.
