New deer-hunting rules offer second antlered tag after doe harvest

New York hunters who harvest and report an antlerless deer during the 2026 season may qualify for a second Antlered Deer Tag, under rules adopted by the state Department of Environmental Conservation.

New York’s 2026 deer-hunting rules allow a hunter to receive a second Antlered Deer Tag after harvesting and reporting an antlerless deer with a valid antlerless deer tag. The second tag may be used during the same seasons as the original tag if the hunter has the required privileges, the Department of Environmental Conservation said.

In St. Lawrence County, the Northern Zone early bowhunting season runs through Oct. 23. Early muzzleloading begins Oct. 17, and the regular firearms season runs from Oct. 24 through Dec. 6. DEC also expanded the number of Wildlife Management Units where hunters can obtain unlimited or bonus Deer Management Permits. The 2026 Youth Firearms Big Game Hunt is scheduled for Oct. 10-12 for licensed hunters ages 12 through 15, with additional rules for younger participants.
