North Country stores report rising demand for wood pellets
Businesses in Potsdam, Massena and Canton reported increased demand for wood pellets compared with previous years and last year.
Wood pellet sellers in the North Country are reporting higher demand for home-heating fuel. Potsdam Agway reported demand has increased threefold over the past several years, while Triple A Building Center said sales are up 65% from last year across its stores in Massena, Canton and Potsdam.
Potsdam Agway has added another pellet supplier and has begun working with JC Merriman’s on deliveries of larger orders. The business also reported higher incoming delivery fees, including a $300 fuel charge on an incoming truckload. Triple A Building Center said Curran pellets are not currently under allocation and are arriving by tractor-trailer on a regular basis.
