A raccoon in the Gouverneur area has tested positive for rabies, the St. Lawrence County Public Health Department said. The New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Laboratory notified the county department of the result.
The county said 25 animals have tested positive for rabies in St. Lawrence County so far this year. Residents are urged to avoid contact with wild animals, keep pets vaccinated and report animal bites or possible exposure to the department at (315) 386-2325.
