Sackets Harbor graduate’s widow advocates for veterans after 2021 death
A Sackets Harbor Central School graduate died by suicide in 2021 after serving in the Army and experiencing PTSD, and his widow has since advocated for veterans’ mental health.
Garrett E. Meredith, a 2014 graduate of Sackets Harbor Central School, served in the Army from 2015 to 2019, including two tours in Afghanistan. He died by suicide in Colorado on May 24, 2021, after experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder, according to the submitted report.
Meredith received full military honors at a burial service in Sackets Harbor that July. His widow, Diana Meredith, has since advocated for veterans dealing with mental health concerns. The report said she planned to participate in a suicide-prevention event in Virginia during September, which is Suicide Prevention Month.
