Cristin Lyon has been appointed chief of the Watertown Police Department, becoming the first woman to hold the position in the city’s history. Lyon joined the department 21 years ago and previously served in road patrol, investigations and supervisory roles before becoming chief at the end of July.
Lyon has identified community involvement, transparency, recruitment and employee retention as priorities. She said the department plans to increase its presence at community events and address public concerns. Mayor Sarah Compo Pierce appointed Lyon to the position. Watertown also hired its first female firefighter in December.
