The Town of Watertown Board is preparing to vote on whether to formally end the town’s involvement with a proposed sports and events center. The project called for a 500,000-square-foot facility on land near State Route 3 and Alexander Drive, but the site remains undeveloped.
Town Supervisor Jim Wright said the town spent about $240,000 on design work and funding for the Thousand Islands Local Development Corporation, including $100,000 for property connected to the proposed site. Former Supervisor Joel Bartlett disputed that figure and said some design work was donated. The development corporation has since shifted its focus toward renovating an existing space, including a possible site at Salmon Run Mall.
