Canton firefighter completes 110-flight stair climb for 9/11 tribute
Volunteer firefighter Brandon O’Shea climbed the equivalent of 110 flights in full fire gear at SUNY Canton to honor people who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
Brandon O’Shea, a volunteer firefighter and college student, completed the equivalent of 110 flights of stairs in full fire gear at SUNY Canton’s fitness center on Friday as a tribute to those who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The climb took about an hour. O’Shea climbed more than 2,000 steps while carrying roughly 60 pounds of gear and did not take a break. The 110-flight distance represents the stories first responders faced inside the World Trade Center while trying to rescue others.
O’Shea’s father was a state trooper based in Massena when the attacks occurred and was later deployed to New York City to assist with the response.
