Clarkson study finds demand for improved North Country air service
A Clarkson University MBA student study found that more than 60% of surveyed higher-education community members would travel more often if airfares were lower and schedules improved.
A Clarkson University MBA student study found substantial interest in expanded air service among students, faculty and staff in the North Country. The survey received 241 responses and was conducted with the Village of Potsdam Planning and Development Office, along with SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam.
More than 60% of respondents said lower fares and better schedules would lead them to travel more often. New York City, Boston, Washington, D.C., Chicago and Toronto were the most requested destinations for direct flights. The study also found that many travelers drive two to three hours to reach larger airports.
The project was completed by Bright Phiri, Violet Derbyshire, Ruvimbo Mabika and Stephen Colangelo under the supervision of Professor Krista Larock. The students presented their findings and recommendations to Potsdam village officials as local leaders discuss transportation and economic development planning.
