Early deer and bear hunting seasons set to begin in New York
New York’s early deer and bear hunting seasons have separate start dates and rules, including an early bowhunting season in St. Lawrence County beginning Sept. 27.
New York’s early hunting seasons include several start dates and regulations for deer and bear. The Northern Zone bear season is scheduled for Sept. 19 through Dec. 6, while early bowhunting for deer in St. Lawrence County begins Sept. 27.
In parts of the Southern Zone, early bear season runs Sept. 12-27 and early antlerless deer season runs Sept. 12-20. Only antlerless deer may be taken during that deer season, using Deer Management Permits or Deer Management Assistance Program tags. Hunters using firearms must wear fluorescent orange or pink, and legal hunting hours run from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.
