The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office says Patrick Delles, 39, of Glenfield, was arrested Wednesday in the town of New Bremen in connection with an investigation into diesel fuel thefts. He was charged in one case involving the alleged theft of 75 gallons of diesel, aluminum wheels and truck batteries in the town of Watson. The charges include felony counts of grand larceny and criminal mischief.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation covers diesel thefts in as many as seven Lewis County towns over about six months, with an estimated 500 to 600 gallons taken from tractors, heavy equipment and vehicles. During the arrest, Delles was also accused of possessing a loaded rifle and three batteries allegedly stolen from a log truck. He faces additional charges of petit larceny and criminal possession of a weapon.

More charges may follow as the investigation continues. The sheriff’s office said Delles was arraigned and released under probation supervision.
