Massena says Flock cameras do not use facial recognition or plate readers

Massena Mayor Greg Paquin said the village’s Flock camera system is limited to live video surveillance and does not include facial recognition, license plate reader technology or automated ticketing. The system uses high-resolution cameras that police can remotely move in a 360-degree view and access from devices including computers, patrol vehicles, tablets and cell phones.

Paquin said the cameras are intended for criminal investigations and are not monitored continuously by police. He said other agencies would need permission to view footage, and that video would be released during active, ongoing investigations. The village has installed 13 cameras and plans to add signs identifying them, according to the report.
