Potsdam board approves retiree insurance plan expected to cut costs

The Potsdam Village Board approved participation in a Medicare Advantage and prescription drug program for eligible retirees beginning in 2027, with village officials estimating about $50,000 in annual savings without a change in coverage.

The Potsdam Village Board approved an agreement to join the Broome County Purchasing Alliance’s Medicare Advantage and prescription drug benefit program for eligible village retirees whose primary insurance is Medicare. The new arrangement is scheduled to begin Jan. 1, 2027.

Village officials said the plan is expected to maintain retirees’ coverage while reducing the village’s costs by about $50,000 annually. The village will provide information needed to administer the program, and retirees will be notified about the change. Information sessions may be offered if needed.
