State Sen. Dan Stec said New York’s plan to study construction of a 3,000-bed correctional facility is difficult to reconcile with the closure of state correctional facilities in the 45th Senate District and elsewhere. The statement was issued Friday, Sept. 11.
Stec also cited a decline in correctional officer enrollment, from 14,334 in September 2024 to 11,113 this month, and urged the state to consider safety reforms and reopening recently closed facilities rather than building a new one.
