Stewart’s offers to share cost of Town of Watertown traffic signal upgrades

Stewart’s Shops has offered to share the cost of upgrading the traffic signal at State Route 3 and the Target shopping plaza as the company seeks to build a store across from the plaza in the Town of Watertown. The proposed changes would accommodate a new access road to the property, with Stewart’s and developer PJ Simao offering to pay for the first 250 feet of that road.

The offer was outlined in a Sept. 2 letter to the town. The signal work has been estimated at $150,000. The letter also says removing about 700 feet of existing sewer pipe could cost as much as $70,000, and suggests that money could instead help fund the signal improvements. Stewart’s asked to address the Town Board at its Sept. 10 meeting at 7 p.m. at the town offices.
