Watertown City Council members rejected a proposal to add escalating late fees to the city’s water department policy.

Watertown City Council rejected a proposal to add late fees for customers who do not pay their water bills on time, the submitted report said.

The proposal called for fees of $50 for a first late payment, $100 for a second and $150 for a third. Council members Benjamin P. Shoen, Douglas Osborne Jr. and Shane Garrabrant opposed the measure.
